Tahir Hussain

The Delhi High Court has asked the Delhi Police to respond to the bail plea of former AAP councilor Tahir Hussain. Hussain has sought regular bail in the murder case of Intelligence Bureau (IB) employee Ankit Sharma during the 2020 Delhi riots. The court will hear the case again on January 15.

Justice Anoop Kumar Mendiratta heard the case. Hussain’s lawyer argued that the lower court ignored the principle of granting bail. He noted that Hussain has been in jail for 4 years and 9 months. The lawyer said the trial has made little progress, with only 20 witnesses examined so far. The charge sheet, filed by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police, names 10 accused. The police identified Salman as the main accused in this case.

Details of Ankit Sharma’s Murder

According to the charge sheet, the mob targeted Ankit Sharma outside Tahir Hussain’s house in Khajuri Khas. The mob killed him using sharp weapons and threw his body into a drain. The post-mortem report confirmed he died from stab wounds. Police claim they have evidence of people dumping bodies in drains during the riots.

Charges Against Tahir Hussain

Police accused Tahir Hussain of planning the murder and funding the riots in North-East Delhi. The riots, which erupted in February 2020, caused many deaths and widespread destruction. At the time, Hussain served as an AAP councilor. The party expelled him after his alleged involvement came to light.

The High Court will decide on the bail plea in its next hearing.
