On Monday, the Delhi High Court directed the court handling National Investigation Agency (NIA) cases to swiftly decide the bail plea of jailed Jammu and Kashmir MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh, also known as Engineer Rashid, in a terror funding case.
Justice Vikas Mahajan stated, “The ASJ-03, Patiala House Court is requested to dispose of the bail application of the petitioner expeditiously.”
Rashid approached the High Court, arguing that his bail application remained in limbo after he became a Member of Parliament (MP), with no clear remedy available before the NIA court.
Justice Mahajan noted that an administrative order from the High Court had already clarified that the NIA court would continue to hear his case.

Following this development, Rashid’s counsel sought to withdraw the petition from the High Court.
The Baramulla MP is facing trial for allegedly funding separatist and terror groups in Jammu and Kashmir.
Elected to the Lok Sabha in 2024, Rashid has been in Tihar Jail since 2019 after the NIA arrested him under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for a 2017 terror funding case.
As an interim relief, the court granted Rashid a two-day custody parole to attend Parliament on 11 and 13 February.
