On March 12, the Rouse Avenue Court is scheduled to hear the defamation complaint filed by Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit against former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh.
This complaint stems from a press conference in December 2023, where Atishi and Singh allegedly made defamatory remarks about Dikshit, accusing him of taking crores of rupees from the BJP to help defeat Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi Assembly elections.
In his complaint, Dikshit claims that Atishi and Sanjay Singh made serious and damaging allegations against him, accusing him of conspiring with the BJP to undermine the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and ensure its defeat in the Delhi elections.
The two leaders allegedly suggested that Dikshit had received a large amount of money from the BJP for this purpose.
In response, Dikshit firmly rejected these accusations, asserting that they were baseless, false, and aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
He made it clear that if these claims were accurate, he would have committed a criminal offense. Consequently, he welcomed a full investigation by relevant law enforcement agencies, including the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), to clear his name.
While addressing the media, Dikshit emphasized that if he had indeed received such a substantial sum of money, he would have utilized it for public welfare, such as funding the cleanup of the Yamuna River and contributing to efforts to combat Delhi’s severe pollution.
He expressed frustration with the lack of evidence to substantiate the serious charges leveled against him and called on Atishi and Sanjay Singh to provide proof of their claims.
Dikshit also reminded the public that Arvind Kejriwal had made similar allegations against the Sheila Dikshit-led government in the past, but no concrete evidence ever supported those accusations.
He stressed that those making accusations of such magnitude must back them with credible proof; otherwise, they undermine public trust in political discourse.
The Rouse Avenue Court has directed Sandeep Dikshit to provide a copy of the pen drive containing the allegedly defamatory interview to Atishi and Sanjay Singh.
The court had previously issued notices to the accused, and now, as the legal proceedings move forward, the case is set for further hearing on March 12.
The outcome of this hearing could play a crucial role in setting a precedent for handling defamation cases within political discourse.
Dikshit remains hopeful that the legal process will clear his name and hold those responsible for spreading false and defamatory accusations accountable.
He aims not only to defend his integrity but also to hold those who make false allegations for political gain accountable through the proper legal channels.
The case is likely to continue drawing attention, particularly given the high-profile nature of the political figures involved.
