Chief Justice Surya Kant on Wednesday cautioned that artificial intelligence is increasingly displaying inherent bias against economically weaker communities. He stressed that social justice remains the foundation of a humane, balanced, and equitable society.
CJI Surya Kant delivered the 8th Dinkar Memorial Lecture on ‘Rashmirathi: The Epic of Social Justice’, organised by Respect India in New Delhi.
Referring to the writings of Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, he said the ideals of equality and human dignity appeared prominently in Dinkar’s literature long before they became constitutional principles.
Justice Surya Kant recalled the lessons from Rashmirathi and underlined that justice, self-respect, and dignity must remain central to a democratic society.
“In a democracy, equality, dignity and social harmony are essential. Merely passing laws is not enough unless every individual is treated with dignity and respect,” he stated.
The Chief Justice expressed concern that social and economic inequalities continue even after seven decades.
During the programme, Lok Sabha MP Manoj Tiwari received the Dinkar Sanskriti Samman 2026 for contributions to cultural and public life. He said Dinkar’s poetry continues to inspire generations and preserve India’s cultural legacy.
Vikas Singh chaired the session and said Dinkar’s writings reflected justice rooted in India’s civilisational ethos.
Manish Kumar Chaudhary, founder of Respect India, described the lecture as a platform uniting culture, ideas, and social responsibility.
Eminent thinker Rameshwar Rai stated that Dinkar’s works remain relevant for understanding social justice and evolving human values.
Members of the judiciary, academia, and public life attended the event.
