The Allahabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA) elections will be held on Thursday, September 17, with 11,485 advocates eligible to exercise their franchise.
Voting will take place from 10 AM to 5 PM at the High Court Cricket Ground in Prayagraj.
A total of 30 positions will be contested in the elections. The posts, however, include one President, one Senior Vice President, four male Vice Presidents and two female Vice Presidents.
The election will cover one General Secretary post, two Treasurer posts — one each for male and female candidates — three Joint Secretary posts and one post reserved for a female Joint Secretary.
In addition, elections will be conducted for 15 Governing Council positions, comprising 10 seats for men and five for women.
Women are represented in the Bar Association elections under the 33 per cent reservation provision.
A six-member team will oversee the election process. Senior Advocate SFA Naqvi has been appointed Chief Returning Officer.
The team under his leadership includes Advocates Vashisht Tiwari, JB Singh, Rajkumar Shukla, Laxmikant Mishra and Anubhav Shukla.
Election Schedule
The tentative voter list published on August 18, following which objections were invited from August 19 to 21.
The final voter list was subsequently released on August 25.
Nomination forms will be available from August 26 to 28 between 10 AM and 4 PM.
Candidates can submit their nomination forms from August 29 to September 1 during the same hours. They will be allowed to withdraw their nominations on September 2.
Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on September 3 and 4, while a tentative list of candidates will be released on September 5 for objections.
The final list of candidates will be published on September 6, ahead of polling on September 17.
Of the 11,485 voters, 134 are senior advocates, 742 are female advocates, and 10,609 are male advocates.
The large electorate will determine the composition of the HCBA’s leadership and governing body for the upcoming term.
