The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government is ramping up fire safety measures for the 2025 Maha Kumbh to make it a fire-free event.
With a focus on zero fire incidents, the government is deploying significantly more resources compared to the 2019 Kumbh to ensure the safety of millions of devotees.
In a bid to surpass the fire safety plans of the 2019 Kumbh, the state government is increasing the number of fire personnel, vehicles, and advanced equipment.
The fire safety setup will include 200 specialized rescue teams, over 2,000 fire safety personnel, and 350 vehicles stationed across the event area, ready to respond within two minutes of any fire alert.
The government is also introducing AI-powered fire detection cameras for the first time.
These cameras will instantly detect any potential fire outbreaks and send alerts to the control room, ensuring rapid responses.
The authorities will place over 7,000 fire hydrants around the venue and establish 50 fire stations, while doubling the number of vehicles from 2019 to handle the increased workload.
Significant Increase In Resources & Personnel
Pramod Sharma, Chief Fire Officer of Prayagraj and Nodal Officer for the Maha Kumbh fire safety, shared that the number of fire stations will increase from 43 in 2019 to 50 in 2025.
Temporary fire posts will rise from 15 to 20, while fire watch towers will increase from 43 to 50.
In total, the number of fire vehicles will nearly double from 166 to 351, and the reserve water tanks will more than double, from 75 to over 150.
With the deployment of 5,000 fire extinguishers in the Akhadas, fire safety measures will be taken to the next level, providing immediate fire-fighting capabilities where needed most.
Sharma emphasized that the aim is to make the Maha Kumbh 2025 a zero-fire incident event, ensuring the safety of attendees through rapid response and advanced technology.
Improved Fire Safety Training & External Audits
Building on the safety measures of the 2019 Kumbh, which saw a significant reduction in fire incidents and no fatalities, the Yogi government is further enhancing preparedness for the 2025 Maha Kumbh.
The number of trained fire personnel has increased to 2,071, up from 1,551 in 2019.
This expansion will ensure effective coverage throughout the event.
In addition, authorities have conducted practical training sessions for firefighters, including special training for all core teams.
The government has also signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with the Uttarakhand Fire and Emergency Services and the National Fire Service College in Nagpur to conduct external audits and ensure that safety standards are maintained at the highest level.

Focus On Zero Fire Incidents
The 2013 Kumbh had witnessed 612 fire incidents, resulting in six fatalities and 15 burn injuries.
However, thanks to improved safety measures, the 2019 Kumbh saw only 55 fire incidents, with no fatalities or major injuries.
Now, with a greater emphasis on advanced technology and increased resources, the Yogi government aims to make the Maha Kumbh 2025 a truly safe event, with zero fire incidents.
