The Yogi Adityanath-led government aims to plant 350 million saplings this year in Uttar Pradesh’s plantation drive to expand green cover.

YOGI ADITYANATH

In a concerted effort to expand Uttar Pradesh’s green cover, the Yogi Adityanath-led government has unveiled an ambitious plan to plant 350 million saplings this year as part of a massive plantation drive.

The initiative aims to elevate the state’s green area from 9 to 15 percent by the fiscal year 2026-27, underscoring a commitment to environmental sustainability with broad public involvement.

This statewide campaign assigns specific targets to every department and division, emphasizing a collaborative approach across sectors.

The Forest, Environment, and Climate Change Department leads with a target of 140 million saplings, followed by significant contributions from departments such as Rural Development, Agriculture, and Horticulture, among others.

Preparations are already underway to ensure the availability of high-quality saplings and the proper execution of this monumental endeavor.

This includes meticulous planning for safe and effective plantation processes, building upon the successes of previous years.

The plantation drive plans to encompass all 18 divisions of Uttar Pradesh, with the Lucknow division slated to lead the effort by planting the highest number of saplings.

Each division has specific targets: Lucknow aims for 4 crore saplings, while Saharanpur aims for 88 lakh, covering the entire state geographically.

Meanwhile, to enhance accountability and transparency, the government will implement geo-tagging of plantation sites, meticulously recording each tree planted.

Apart from forest lands, the initiative will extend to village panchayats, expressways, industrial complexes, and private farmlands, fostering a holistic approach to environmental stewardship.

Officials have been directed to mobilize resources across sectors to achieve these targets, underscoring the government’s commitment to fostering a greener and more sustainable future for Uttar Pradesh.
