Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked World Environment Day by participating in a tree plantation drive under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative in Gujarat.
The campaign encourages citizens to plant a tree in their mother’s name, combining environmental responsibility with a tribute to family values.
PM Modi planted a sapling as part of the nationwide initiative, which he launched on World Environment Day in 2024.
Since then, the campaign has grown into a mass movement aimed at increasing green cover, encouraging public participation in afforestation and raising awareness about environmental conservation across the country.
During his visit, the Prime Minister also reviewed major industrial and infrastructure projects in Hazira, near Surat. He assessed the progress of ongoing development works and examined operations at key manufacturing and engineering facilities that contribute significantly to India’s industrial growth and defence production capabilities.
Officials said the review focused on project implementation, operational efficiency and expansion plans across the Hazira industrial belt.
The region has emerged as one of India’s leading centres for heavy engineering, advanced manufacturing and large-scale infrastructure development.
Hazira continues to play a strategic role in strengthening India’s industrial ecosystem, with several projects aimed at enhancing production capacity, improving logistics and supporting long-term economic growth.
Plantation drives took place across Surat under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, with civic bodies and community groups promoting environmental awareness.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi said PM Modi encouraged people to use public transport, walk and cycle for short-distance travel to reduce fuel consumption and support sustainability.
The visit highlighted the government’s focus on balancing environmental conservation with economic development.
