Second Sudanese Student Isolated In Hyderabad After Suspected Ebola Symptoms At Airport

Another Sudanese national has been shifted to an isolation centre in Hyderabad after being flagged for suspected Ebola symptoms upon arrival at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), officials said on Friday.

The individual, a student pursuing higher education at a private university in Hyderabad, was transferred to the isolation ward at Gandhi Hospital for observation and testing. His close contact has also been isolated and sent for screening as a precautionary measure.

The traveller was identified during thermal screening at the airport and was found to have a body temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Given his travel history from a high-risk country, authorities shifted him to the designated nodal centre for further monitoring.

Doctors said that the student is currently under observation in the hospital’s isolation ward.

Samples, including blood, urine and swab specimens, have been sent to government-designated laboratories for testing, with reports expected within two days.

According to medical officials, the traveller has not shown symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhoea. These are commonly associated with Ebola.

If test results return negative, doctors may advise home isolation and monitoring.

In the event of a positive result, treatment will begin according to established protocols.

Gandhi Hospital has been designated as the nodal centre for Ebola preparedness in Hyderabad. The facility has set up a dedicated ward comprising 10 fully isolated rooms with attached bathrooms and 15 quarantine beds.

Special screening and thermal scanning continue at RGIA for passengers arriving from African countries, including Congo, Uganda and South Sudan.

A dedicated team of doctors, health inspectors, field staff and paramedics has been deployed to monitor arrivals.

Earlier Travellers Under Surveillance

Earlier this week, Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha stated that 58 travellers from Ebola-affected countries had arrived in Hyderabad. None had shown symptoms, and all were placed under Category-I surveillance and 21-day home isolation as a precautionary measure.
