In a significant leap towards fostering gender inclusivity within the nation’s armed forces, female officers are set to command the Indian Coast Guard contingent during this year’s Republic Day parade.
Assistant Commandant Chunauti Sharma, who has previously marched on the Kartavya Path as part of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), expressed her joy and pride at this historic moment. In a departure from the norm where women contingents are usually separate in the NCC, this year marks a groundbreaking occasion as women officers take the lead in guiding the Jawans.
Reflecting on her experience, Sharma noted the distinction between her previous participation in the NCC and her upcoming role in leading the Coast Guard contingent. She expressed immense pride in this milestone, emphasizing the special nature of the event as both she and her spouse are actively involved in the parade, with her husband commanding the Sikh contingent.
Assistant Commandant Priya, expressing her pride in leading the Indian Coast Guard contingent, highlighted the significance of the parade as a national platform to showcase the strength and capabilities of women in the armed forces.
