Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Uzbekistan and attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Kyrgyzstan next week, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Thursday.
PM Modi will arrive in Tashkent on August 29 for a two-day State Visit at the invitation of Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. It will be his fourth visit to Uzbekistan.
The Prime Minister will likely hold delegation-level talks with Mirziyoyev to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Key Areas of Cooperation
The two leaders will review cooperation in trade and investment, defence, digital connectivity, energy, education and people-to-people exchanges, while setting an agenda for future cooperation. They will exchange views on advancing the shared developmental visions of Viksit Bharat 2047 and Uzbekistan-2030.
Prime Minister Modi will likely visit the Shastri Memorial in Tashkent and the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, where he will interact with Indologists and scholars.
India and Uzbekistan have maintained extensive bilateral and multilateral engagement.
Mirziyoyev visited India for a State Visit in 2018 and participated in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in 2019.
The two leaders met at COP28 in Dubai in 2023, the BRICS Summit in Kazan in 2024 and the SCO Summit in Tianjin, China, in 2025.
Discussions during the visit will likely cover trade and investment, critical minerals, healthcare, business-to-business engagement, education, space, technology, culture and people-to-people exchanges.
Following his Uzbekistan visit, PM Modi will travel to Bishkek on August 31 to participate in the 26th SCO Summit.
The SCO marks its 25th anniversary this year, with the theme, ’25 Years of the SCO: Together Towards Sustainable Peace, Development, and Prosperity’.
The summit programme includes a welcome dinner on August 31 and a plenary session the following day, where PM Modi will deliver his remarks. Several bilateral engagements are being planned on the sidelines.
Prime Minister Modi will likely participate in the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games alongside other leaders from SCO member countries.
