West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday served the popular Bengali snack ‘Jhalmuri’ to PM Narendra Modi during a key National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting in New Delhi.
The meeting was convened to mark 12 years of the NDA government at the Centre and to celebrate PM Modi becoming India’s longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Modi shared a video of the interaction on his official Instagram account.
The footage showed CM Adhikari serving ‘Jhalmuri’ to the Prime Minister during the gathering. PM Modi later requested the vendor to offer the snack to other NDA leaders present at the venue. BJP President Nitin Nabin also enjoyed the snack.

A Taste of Bengal
The traditional Bengali snack has previously featured in the BJP’s political outreach in West Bengal.
During the campaign for the West Bengal Assembly elections, PM Modi had made an unscheduled stop in Jhargram to sample ‘Jhalmuri’ while taking a break from election rallies.
Derived from the Bengali word ‘Jhal’, meaning spicy or hot, the snack later became a campaign symbol, representing both the intensity of the electoral contest and regional identity.
The NDA meeting was also significant as alliance leaders prepared to acknowledge PM Modi’s record-breaking tenure in office.
Sources indicated that the coalition was likely to adopt a resolution congratulating the Prime Minister for surpassing the record held by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
On June 10, PM Modi completed 4,399 days in office as an elected Prime Minister, exceeding Nehru’s tenure from 1952 onwards.
While former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi served for more than 14 years, her tenure was not continuous, making PM Modi the longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister in India’s history.
The meeting focused on the NDA government’s achievements over the past 12 years, future policy priorities and the alliance’s political roadmap.
