Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday informed the Lok Sabha that the ongoing conflict in West Asia has generated serious and unforeseen challenges for India. He described the situation as deeply concerning and noted its widening repercussions on global stability and daily life.
He stated that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had already briefed Parliament.
The crisis has now extended beyond three weeks, amplifying its economic and humanitarian consequences.
PM Modi emphasised that the international community is urging all stakeholders to pursue a swift resolution.
The Prime Minister outlined that the conflict presents economic, strategic, and humanitarian concerns for India.
He stressed that India maintains substantial trade ties with nations directly and indirectly affected by the hostilities. He added that the region remains a critical corridor for international commerce.
PM Modi highlighted that a significant share of India’s crude oil and gas imports originates from West Asia.
He further pointed out that nearly one crore Indians reside and work across the Gulf nations. A considerable number of Indian seafarers also operate in surrounding waters, heightening India’s vulnerability.
Addressing safety measures, Prime Minister Modi assured that the government has extended all necessary support to Indian nationals in affected regions.
PM Modi confirmed that he personally engaged with several West Asian leaders, who guaranteed the safety of Indians.
He acknowledged casualties and injuries among Indians and stated that authorities are providing financial assistance and medical care. Indian missions continue to assist citizens, including workers and tourists.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed that safeguarding Indians, both domestically and overseas, remains the government’s foremost priority.
