Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted much-needed relief for North India starting Saturday, after several weeks of intense heat across the region.
A change in atmospheric conditions will usher in lower temperatures, increased cloud cover, and rainfall across several states, easing the strain of the prolonged summer heat.
Beginning Saturday, temperatures are likely to decline notably, with daytime highs likely settling around 41°C and overnight lows dipping to approximately 29°C.
This downward trend will become more pronounced on Saturday, 15 June, with maximum temperatures projected to reach 40°C and minimums dropping to 28°C.
Thunderstorms, accompanied by rain, are also expected during this period, helping to cool the region and provide further relief from the oppressive conditions.
In Delhi, where temperatures are currently hovering near 44°C, forecasters expect a decline.
By 15 or 16 June, daytime temperatures in the capital may drop to around 40°C, with light rain and scattered thunderstorms predicted in some parts.
The IMD forecasts largely cloudy skies for 16 and 17 June across North India, with light to moderate rainfall expected in many areas, likely improving overall conditions.
Despite the impending improvement, several alerts remain in place.
The IMD has issued a Red Alert for Punjab and Haryana for the next two days due to persistent extreme heat and the possibility of thunderstorms.
Rajasthan remained under a Red Alert on Friday, with an Orange Alert in effect for the subsequent two days. Uttar Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir are also under Orange Alert through the weekend.
Authorities continue to advise the public to take necessary precautions – stay indoors during peak hours, keep well-hydrated, and stay informed through official weather advisories.
