Voting Underway For 6 Legislative Council Seats In Karnataka

A total of 78 contestants are in fray for 6 legislative council seats in Karnataka. Over 4 lakh voters will fulfil their civic duty to cast vote.

The biennial voting for 6 legislative council seats in Karnataka is taking place today on Monday. The voting began at 8 am and is to continue toll 4 pm in the evening.

Legislative Council or Upper House of Karnataka  has 75 members. 29 members are from congress. Out of 75, 6 seats are undergoing voting and the counting is to take place on June 6.

The Congress is contesting on all 6 seats in the polls while BJP and JD(S) are fighting in coalition. BJP has fielded its candidates on 4 seats while JD(S) got 2 in seat division.

The polls are being held on seats of Karnataka North East Graduates, Karnataka South West Graduates, Bangalore Graduates, Karnataka South-East Teachers, Karnataka South-West Teachers and Karnataka South Teachers.

A total of 78 contestants are in fray for 6 legislative council seats in Karnataka. Over 4 lakh voters will fulfil their civic duty to cast vote. 3.63 lakh voter are there on Graduates’ constituency, however, only 70,260 individuals will participate in the voting process on Teachers’ constituencies.

170 polling stations have been set up for Teachers’ seats while 461 polling stations for Graduates’ constituencies by the Election Commission of India.

Congress is making all possible attempts to secure majority in the Council as the party has government in the state.
