Congress leader VD Satheesan will take oath as Keralam Chief Minister on Monday at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, marking the Congress-led United Democratic Front’s return to power after a decade.
Senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Mallikarjun Kharge, along with chief ministers from Congress-ruled states, will attend the swearing-in ceremony.
Ahead of the ceremony, Satheesan met Cardinal Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis, also known as Cleemis Bava, and sought his blessings before assuming office.
Sharing details on social media, Satheesan said the Cardinal’s blessings and words of encouragement strengthened his commitment towards inclusive governance and Keralam’s development.
The new administration will assume office with a 21-member cabinet, including the Chief Minister.
Political sources said the Congress will likely hold 11 ministerial portfolios, while alliance partner Indian Union Muslim League may receive five cabinet positions.
Several senior IUML leaders, including PK Kunhalikutty, KM Shaji, N Shamsuddeen and Parakkal Abdulla, are reportedly under consideration for ministerial roles.
Discussions within the party are continuing over the final cabinet composition and power-sharing arrangement.
The UDF secured a decisive mandate in the Assembly elections, paving the way for its return to power in Keralam after ten years.
The swearing-in ceremony will mark the beginning of the new UDF government, which is expected to focus on governance, development and stronger coalition coordination.
Political observers see V D Satheesan’s elevation as a significant moment in Keralam politics ahead of the final cabinet announcement.
