MEA Secretary Sibi George Says Sweden Visit Strengthened India-Sweden Ties

MEA Secretary Highlights Trade, Defence & Viksit Bharat Vision During PM Modi’s Sweden Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his successful visit to Sweden on Sunday, with the Ministry of External Affairs highlighting several major outcomes related to trade, defence, innovation and strategic cooperation between India and Sweden.

MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George said the visit strengthened bilateral relations and promoted India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision by encouraging Swedish companies to become active partners in India’s long-term growth journey.

According to Sibi George, Prime Minister Modi and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson discussed expanding cooperation in trade, security, technology and investment.

The leaders also exchanged views on the evolving global geopolitical situation and emphasised the importance of stronger collaboration between democratic nations.

The MEA official highlighted that Swedish businesses, including small and medium enterprises, showed strong interest in participating in India’s expanding economy. He noted that many Swedish business leaders expressed confidence in India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 roadmap and viewed India as a major destination for future investment and industrial growth.

India and Sweden elevated ties to a Strategic Partnership and adopted a Joint Action Plan for 2026–2030 focused on security, technology, sustainability and economic cooperation.

The visit also launched the India-Sweden Joint Innovation Partnership 2.0, a virtual Science and Technology Centre and an AI and Technology Corridor to strengthen collaboration in AI, digital transformation and emerging technologies.

Both countries agreed to expand trade and investment, support start-ups and strengthen cultural ties through the ‘Tagore-Sweden’ Lecture Series.

Earlier, PM Narendra Modi met Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Gothenburg to discuss trade, technology and innovation cooperation.
