Uttarkashi Cloudburst: 409 Rescued So Far As Relief Operations Intensify

Rescue teams brought 274 stranded individuals to safety in Harsil on Thursday, following the devastating cloudburst and flash floods in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand.

Officials confirmed that this brings the total number of people rescued to 409 since the disaster struck.

Uttarkashi Cloudburst: 135 Already Evacuated to Safer Locations

In addition to those rescued and sheltered in Harsil, officials have evacuated 135 people to safer destinations. Out of these, 100 have reached Uttarkashi while 35 have been taken to Dehradun, the State Disaster Management Authority reported.

The 274 people rescued on Thursday include pilgrims from across India, such as:

  • 131 from Gujarat
  • 123 from Maharashtra
  • 21 from Madhya Pradesh
  • 12 from Uttar Pradesh
  • 6 from Rajasthan
  • 7 from Delhi
  • 5 each from Assam and Karnataka
  • 3 from Telangana
  • 1 from Punjab

All rescued individuals remain safe and are receiving necessary assistance.

A total of 479 personnel from various forces are currently conducting relief operations in the affected areas. The deployment includes:

  • 150 soldiers from Rajputana Rifles, including a specialised Ghaatak Team
  • 12 members from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)
  • 69 personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF)
  • 130 personnel from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)
  • 50-member medical team, including doctors
  • 9 firefighters from the Fire Department
  • 15 officers from the Police Wireless Unit
  • 25 civil administration officials, including the SDM, Tehsildar, DM, and SP
  • 15 members from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO)

Reinforcements on the Way

To further strengthen on-ground efforts, an additional 819 rescue personnel are expected to arrive soon. These reinforcements will help support ongoing evacuations and aid distribution, especially under challenging weather conditions.

The State Government, District Administration, Disaster Management Department, ITBP, NDRF, and other concerned agencies remain fully engaged in coordinated operations.

Officials are continuing efforts to ensure the safety, shelter, and medical care of all those affected by the cloudburst.
