Uttarakhand Govt’s ‘Operation Kalnemi’ Earns Praise Across Party Lines

Uttarakhand CM Dhami’s ‘Operation Kalnemi’ is drawing nationwide support for its crackdown on fake spiritual gurus.

Operation Kalnemi

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s ‘Operation Kalnemi’ is gaining nationwide support for its tough stance against fake spiritual gurus.

The operation, launched to expose individuals fraudulently posing as saints, has already led to more than 100 arrests, drawing rare praise from both ruling and opposition parties.

The campaign aims to preserve the sanctity of Sanatan Dharma and the legacy of genuine saints by targeting those exploiting religious sentiments for personal gain.

CM Dhami, on Sunday, warned such fraudsters: “Those conspiring and disguising themselves as ‘sadhus’ to bring disrepute to Sanatan Dharma will not be spared.”

Bipartisan support with cautionary notes

BJP leaders, including national spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, lauded the initiative. Naqvi emphasised the need to combat religious deceit, conversions through deception, and intimidation.

MP Praveen Khandelwal and spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain also praised Dhami’s crackdown, calling it a move to protect innocent people from con artists posing as holy men.

Opposition leaders also extended support. Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Anand Dubey commended the move but urged Dhami to act against ‘Kalnemis within the BJP’ who he claimed were spreading division.

SP MLA Abu Azmi praised the operation as ‘very nice’ and emphasised punishing religious fraud, regardless of faith.

Operation Kalnemi has become a unifying cause, with leaders agreeing on the need to preserve religious sanctity and protect citizens from spiritual exploitation.
