UP Elections 2027: Amit Shah Announces Uniform Civil Code Plan

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday announced that the BJP would implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttar Pradesh if the party returns to power for a third consecutive term after the 2027 Assembly elections.

Addressing the BJP’s state executive committee meeting in Lucknow, Shah urged party workers to set aside personal differences, strengthen the organisation and treat the next Assembly election as their own responsibility.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, state BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, and other senior leaders attended the meeting.

Shah targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, questioning their claims of returning to power.

Shah criticised the previous SP government over the firing on Ram devotees and kar sevaks in Ayodhya, while recalling Kalyan Singh’s role in the Ram Temple movement. He praised the Yogi government for improving law and order, attracting investment and acting against criminal networks.

Calling the BJP’s organisational strength its biggest asset, the Minister urged workers to highlight government initiatives.

Shah claimed riots had declined by 70 per cent under the BJP-led government and cited the abrogation of Article 370 and the target of making India drug-free by December 2029. He further rejected Opposition allegations of vote theft, challenging rival parties to raise the issue in a special parliamentary session.

Shah expressed confidence in the BJP’s long-term political prospects and cited its electoral victories in several states.

Recalling the party’s organisational expansion in Uttar Pradesh before the 2014 elections, Shah urged workers to intensify grassroots efforts ahead of the 2027 polls.
