Lucknow: Putting an end to the swirling speculations regarding his potential switch to the BJP, Uttar Pradesh Congress President and Indi Alliance candidate from Varanasi, Ajay Rai, unequivocally refuted such claims. In a statement issued, he accused the BJP of spreading unfounded rumours and described the discussions about his joining the BJP as misleading. Rai asserted that the BJP’s attempts to sow confusion stemmed from its own apprehension and fear.
Rai further criticized the BJP for its attacks on the political and social fabric of the people. Emphasizing his commitment to the Congress party, he highlighted his long-standing association as a Congress worker, affirming his dedication to continue serving the party for the rest of his life. Rai expressed gratitude for the respect and affection he has received from the Congress party, acknowledging that such sentiments cannot be repaid over a lifetime.
Addressing the people of Kashi, Rai reiterated his earlier declaration that the upcoming electoral battle would be cautious. He warned against underestimating the intensity of the contest, particularly in Kashi, and urged BJP supporters not to harbour any illusions about the electoral outcome. Rai asserted that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections would carry a significant message from Banaras to the entire nation, signalling that history will be scripted within the sacred city.
