Tripura has witnessed an alarming surge in dengue cases over the past few days, with a total of 92 cases being registered. Most of these cases were detected in the Sepahijala district, situated along the Bangladesh border, according to an official statement on Thursday.
Fortunately, there have been no reported deaths due to dengue in the state as yet. However, authorities are taking all precautionary measures to control the spread of the disease. Supriya Mallik, the Director of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine, assured that necessary precautions are in place.
Out of the 92 cases, 84 were identified in Dhanpur and Melagharh areas within the Sepahijala district, while the remaining cases were found in Kanchanmala, located in the West Tripura district.
To address the situation promptly, a six-member Rapid Response Team comprising specialist doctors has been set up. This team will conduct special screenings in the potential dengue hotspots. Additionally, tests are being conducted at the three immigration checkposts along the Bangladesh border.
Mallik mentioned that the outbreak might be linked to dengue cases in neighbouring Bangladesh, where the situation has become critical. He pointed out that mosquitoes can cross the international border and bite people residing in border areas, potentially leading to the spread of the disease in Tripura’s Sonamura subdivision.

The health authorities are closely monitoring the situation and maintaining control. Necessary medical supplies and kits have been made available in Dhanpur and Kathalia hospitals to handle any potential complications arising from dengue cases.
Regarding the recent death of a 72-year-old individual from Melaghar, who suffered from high fever and other complications, a medical team has been formed to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities are thoroughly investigating the case to rule out any potential link to dengue.
With a proactive approach and stringent measures in place, Tripura is aiming to curb the spread of dengue and protect its citizens from further risks. The cooperation of neighbouring regions is being sought to collectively combat the outbreak.
