Two consecutive accidents on the ISKCON flyover located on Sarkhej-Gandhinagar (SG) highway in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad resulted in claiming the lives of nine people. First accident occurred when an SUV collided with a dumper from behind, prompting a crowd to gather on the road. While some were curious onlookers, others were trying to assist the injured victims. It was during this situation that a speeding luxury car crashed into the assembled crowd, leading to the devastating outcome.
Among the deceased were nine people, including a police constable. Additionally, 13 individuals sustained injuries in the accidents, as reported by the Ahmedabad city police control. The unfortunate event took place around 1:15 am on the ISKCON flyover on the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar (SG) highway.
According to eyewitness reports, when the luxury car collided with the crowd, many individuals were flung approximately 20 to 25 feet away from the scene, highlighting the severity of the impact.
This tragedy brings to mind a similar incident that occurred in Gujarat the previous year. In that incident, nine people lost their lives, and 28 others were injured when a speeding SUV crashed into a private bus at Vesma Cross Road on National Highway-48 in Navsari. The SUV was carrying employees of a pharmaceutical company at Ankleshwar GIDC, while the bus passengers were returning to their homes in Valsad district’s Kolak village after participating in the Pramukh Swami Shatabdi Mahotsav of Swaminarayan in Ahmedabad. Eight employees from the pharmaceutical firm and one bus passenger lost their lives in that accident.
