A tragic incident unfolded in Chennai as a 21-year-old woman succumbed to suicide, her passing shadowed by the grim circumstances surrounding her life. The young woman, reportedly struggling with the aftermath of her husband’s murder, was found unconscious on April 20 and rushed to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. Despite medical efforts, she passed away on April 22, leaving behind a void and unanswered questions.
According to sources within the police force, the woman’s marital journey was fraught with adversity. She had taken the bold step of marrying a 22-year-old Dalit man in October 2023, defying the boundaries of caste norms. However, this courageous act met staunch opposition from her own family, hailing from the Vanniyar community, an OBC caste.
Earlier on February 25, the woman’s elder brother, accompanied by four accomplices, allegedly committed a heinous act, taking the life of her husband in Pallikaranai. The perpetrators were swiftly apprehended and charged under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, along with relevant sections of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
In the wake of her husband’s brutal demise, the young woman had been vocal in her demand for justice, urging authorities to hold not only her brother but also her own parents accountable for their alleged involvement. Expressing suspicions that her brother might have acted under their directives, she sought stringent action against all implicated parties.
Investigations are underway, with law enforcement committed to unraveling the complexities surrounding this tragic saga. Statements from the parents of the deceased couple are anticipated to shed light on the circumstances leading to these distressing events. In this narrative of sorrow and injustice, the quest for truth and accountability remains paramount.
