Three Flights Land Safely In Hyderabad After Bomb Threat Emails Trigger Security Alert

Three flights bound for Hyderabad, including two international services, landed safely after bomb threat emails prompted emergency checks at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

Three flights, including two international services, landed safely at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on Sunday night after bomb threat emails triggered a major security response.

Airport authorities confirmed on Monday that all threats were later found to be hoaxes.

The bomb threat email, received by RGIA’s customer support team, targeted flights arriving from Kannur, Frankfurt and Heathrow.

Authorities promptly activated standard safety protocols, ensuring coordinated checks by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), local police, and bomb disposal squads.

IndiGo flight 6E 7178 from Kannur was the first to land safely, touching down at 10:50 PM.

The Lufthansa service from Frankfurt (LH 752) landed at 2 AM on Monday, also without incident. British Airways flight BA 277 from Heathrow landed safely at 5:20 AM.

Officials carried out comprehensive inspections and declared all three threats baseless. Police have launched an investigation to identify the sender of the threatening email.

Second Consecutive Day of Hoax Threats

The latest scare came just a day after RGIA received multiple bomb threat emails on December 6, targeting four flights within a span of less than 12 hours.

In that instance, three flights, Air India AI 2879 from Delhi, British Airways BA 277 from Heathrow, and Singapore Airlines SQ 518 from Singapore, landed safely in Hyderabad.

However, Kuwait Airways flight KU 373 from Kuwait turned back as a precautionary measure because it was closest to its departure airport when officials detected the threat.

Subsequent checks confirmed that the authorities had deemed the threats unfounded.

Hyderabad airport has faced a string of similar hoax threats in recent days.

On December 5, an Emirates flight from Dubai received a bomb threat but landed safely after a thorough inspection.

Earlier, on December 2 and December 4, authorities diverted two IndiGo flights, one from Kuwait and another from Medinah, after they received emailed threats.

Authorities are working to trace the source of the repeated hoax messages, which have disrupted operations and heightened security protocols across multiple flights this month.
