
Terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists in the Pahalgam area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday, injuring several civilians. Authorities immediately rushed the injured to a local hospital in Pahalgam.
However, the state government has not yet issued an official statement on casualties or the extent of injuries.
Home Minister Amit Shah Condemns Attack; To Visit Srinagar
Union Home Minister Amit Shah strongly condemned the attack and vowed strict action against the perpetrators. In a post on social media platform X, Shah said, “Anguished by the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. My thoughts are with the family members of the deceased. Those involved in this dastardly act of terror will not be spared, and we will come down heavily on the perpetrators with the harshest consequences.”

Shah briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the situation and conducted a video conference with security officials.
He confirmed that he would shortly leave for Srinagar to chair an urgent security review meeting with all concerned agencies.
PM Modi Orders Swift Action And On-Ground Assessment
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with Amit Shah following the attack and directed him to take all necessary steps in response.
He also instructed Shah to personally visit the attack site in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district to assess the situation.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Decries Cowardly Attack
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also condemned the attack.
“Deeply anguished by the news of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. This dastardly attack on innocent civilians is an act of cowardice and highly reprehensible. My thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims and their families,” he said.
J&K CM Omar Abdullah Expresses Shock And Outrage
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep sorrow and outrage.
“I’m shocked beyond belief. This attack on our visitors is an abomination. The perpetrators of this attack are animals, inhuman and worthy of contempt. No words of condemnation are enough,” he said.
Abdullah refrained from confirming the death toll, stating that the numbers would be officially communicated once verified.
He added that he was returning to Srinagar immediately and had spoken to colleague Sakina Itoo, who visited the hospital to oversee arrangements for the injured.
Political Leaders Condemn The Attack
Leaders from across political parties condemned the incident, calling it an attack on peace and the region’s vital tourism sector.
Many expressed solidarity with the victims and their families while urging a strong response against the attackers.
Security forces and police personnel arrived at the scene soon after the firing.
Ambulances also reached the site to transport the injured. A search operation is currently underway to track down those responsible for the attack.
