Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) National Working President and Bihar Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav was released from the Secretariat police station after police detained him during the party’s Raj Bhavan march in Patna on Wednesday.
After his release, Tejashwi said the RJD would continue its agitation. He demanded that Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary accept responsibility and that authorities take strict action against those responsible. He said the party would keep fighting for justice for students, accountability in the Siwan firing case and solutions to unemployment and recruitment concerns.
Tejashwi accused the Bihar government and administration of attempting to silence young people. He said the RJD would raise students’ concerns both on the streets and inside the Bihar Assembly.
The march focused on allegations of AK-47 use during student protests in Siwan. It raised concerns over examination irregularities, unemployment and recruitment issues.
Police suspended the constable accused of firing the weapon. They transferred Siwan Superintendent of Police Puran Kumar Jha on August 18.
During Wednesday’s march, protesters breached barricades at Dakbungalow Crossing before police stopped them near the Income Tax Roundabout.
Police used water cannons and detained several demonstrators, including Tejashwi. Some protesters carried dummy AK-47s to symbolise their allegations.
RJD MP Manoj Jha said the march sought to present students’ concerns to the Governor, particularly regarding examination transparency and alleged police action against protesters.
Bihar BJP President Sanjay Saraogi called the agitation a political exercise. He accused Tejashwi of trying to revive his political fortunes.
Saraogi said the Bihar government had already introduced measures against paper leaks, including penalties of up to Rs 1 crore and imprisonment of up to eight years.
The confrontation has further intensified the political dispute over student protests, examination reforms, unemployment and police accountability.
