Tariq Anwar Says All-Party Meet With PM Modi Was Mere Formality

A senior Congress MP has dismissed PM Modi’s meeting with the all-party delegation on Operation Sindoor as a political formality.

A senior Congress MP has dismissed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with the all-party delegation on Operation Sindoor as a political formality. The delegation included leaders such as Shashi Tharoor and Ghulam Nabi Azad. Congress MP Tariq Anwar told IANS that the meeting aimed only to project political unity, not to achieve concrete results.

“This was only a formality to show that all parties are united, which is far from the truth. No substantial outcome emerged,” said Anwar.

PM Modi had earlier posted on the platform X that he was proud of how MPs represented India globally and underlined India’s stance on peace and anti-terrorism.

Opposition alleges diplomatic failure

Tariq Anwar criticised the government’s diplomatic efforts, calling them ineffective.

“Our goal was to isolate Pakistan and expose its terrorist links. Instead, Pakistan continues to hold key international roles — co-chair in the UNSC, head of a US-formed Taliban monitoring panel, and recipient of funds from the IMF and World Bank,” he said.

Anwar added that India’s diplomatic outreach had not shifted the global narrative, asserting, “This mission ended up being ceremonial rather than strategic. No international pressure on Pakistan has been created.”

Demand grows for special parliamentary session

On the demand for a special Parliament session, Anwar said, “We’ve been demanding it consistently. Why is the PM avoiding it?”

He criticised the government for its response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where 26 Indians died.

“The attackers infiltrated 300 km, struck, and escaped. Our security agencies failed to act,” Anwar said.

The Opposition has intensified pressure. On June 3, leaders from 16 parties, including the Congress, Trinamool Congress, RJD, Samajwadi Party, and Shiv Sena (UBT), signed a joint letter to the PM demanding a special session to discuss Operation Sindoor and India’s counter-terrorism approach.
