Swachh Sujal Gaon At Maha Kumbh Draws Over 11 Lakh Visitors

The Swachh Sujal Gaon, developed at Maha Kumbh under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath by the Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply Departments, has attracted over 11 lakh visitors so far.

Spread across 40,000 square feet, the model village highlights the transformation of Uttar Pradesh’s rural landscape through key government initiatives.

Visitors get an insight into the state’s development journey, witnessing villages reshaped by landmark reforms.

Emphasizing the tradition of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’, hosts serve guests ‘Jal Prasad’ (water offerings) during their visit. They conduct a Ganga Jal Aarti each evening, enhancing the village’s spiritual and cultural appeal.

The village has seen a continuous influx of visitors, with over one lakh people arriving on key dates like 19 January, 24, 26, and 9 February. However, entry was restricted on major bathing festival days.

Visitors learn about the success of the Jal Jeevan Mission, led by PM Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath, which has provided clean drinking water to every household in Bundelkhand.

The transformation of Bundelkhand from a water-scarce region before 2017 to its present state is a major highlight of the village.

Additionally, the exhibit showcases modern rural development initiatives, including the PM Awas Yojana, CM Awas Yojana, village panchayats, and the use of solar energy for sustainability.

Swachh Sujal Gaon Open Until 26 Feb 2025

The Swachh Sujal Gaon, themed ‘Peyjal Ka Samadhan, Mere Gaon Ki Nai Pehchaan’ (Water Solution, My Village’s New Identity), will remain open for visitors until 26 February 2025.

Various programs and exhibitions provide a platform for rural women from Bundelkhand to share how access to clean water has transformed their lives.

Women from Banda, Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Lalitpur, and Mahoba have recounted how water scarcity once caused hardships, including delayed marriages and health issues.

The information in the village is available in Hindi, English, Bengali, Telugu, and Marathi, making it accessible to a diverse audience.

A key attraction is the ‘Jal Mandir’, where water symbolically flows from Lord Shiva’s hair locks, representing the descent of the Ganga to Earth.

The daily Ganga Jal Aarti here reinforces the importance of water conservation.

As part of the visitor experience, guests receive ‘Jal Prasad’ in jute bags, containing water from the Sangam, a Jal Jeevan Mission diary, and educational materials on the region’s development.
