The Bihar Assembly elections concluded with a historic triumph for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which secured 202 out of 243 seats, leaving the Mahagathbandhan with just 35. The resounding victory has triggered widespread reactions from opposition leaders, particularly Congress members, who have expressed concern and frustration over the outcome.
Senior Congress leader Kripanand Pathak questioned the accuracy of information during the elections, stating, “The responsible authorities did not provide the correct information. Complaints kept coming to us, but the matters that needed escalation to higher officials were not properly addressed. How could such a major error happen?”
Meanwhile, Shashi Tharoor accused the Election Commission of favouring the NDA, while Manishankar Aiyar described the Mahagathbandhan’s defeat as ‘humiliating’, admitting, “We failed to focus on the people’s issues.”
Senior Congress leader and former Governor Nikhil Kumar highlighted organisational weaknesses, adding, “Every political party depends on its organisational strength. If the party cannot operate effectively, the results inevitably suffer.”
Nikhil Kumar also noted that while all party candidates were capable, better selection and stronger grassroots presence could have improved outcomes.
Mumtaz Patel called the Mahagathbandhan’s loss ‘disheartening’, stating, “We did not live up to public expectations.”
Shakil Ahmed further criticised the election process, alleging that the Election Commission failed to maintain fairness.
The NDA’s sweeping win reflects its entrenched position in the state. The BJP won 91 seats, the JD(U) 83, the LJP 19, and other allies nine. Despite opposition complaints and criticisms, the public has widely regarded the alliance’s success as a strong mandate supporting their governance and policies.
The 2025 Bihar elections not only reaffirmed NDA’s dominance but also sparked a serious introspection within the Mahagathbandhan and Congress, with party leaders openly critiquing strategy, candidate selection, and administrative oversight.
