Supreme Court Issues Notice To Bihar Government Over Petition

The Supreme Court is set to hear the bail plea of jailed BRS leader Kavita on Monday in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam. Kavita has approached the Supreme Court after the Delhi High Court denied her bail. A bench consisting of Justices BR Gavai and KV Vishwanathan will review the bail plea filed by Kavita in cases involving both the CBI and ED.

During the bail hearing in the Delhi High Court, senior advocate Vikram Chaudhary, representing Kavita, argued that the investigations conducted by the ED and CBI were biased and one-sided. However, both agencies opposed her bail plea, asserting that she played a significant role in the conspiracy behind the scam. The agencies also expressed concerns that Kavita, due to her influential position, could potentially tamper with evidence or influence witnesses if released on bail.

The ED further argued that Kavita benefited from the proceeds of crime generated through the Delhi liquor policy scam. In her defense, Kavita’s lawyer highlighted that she is the only woman among the 50 accused in the case and urged the court to consider granting her bail on that basis.

Kavita was arrested by the ED on March 15 at her residence in Banjara Hills. She is accused of being a key member of the South Group involved in the Delhi liquor scam. Notably, businessmen Raghav Magunta, P Sharad Reddy, and Dinesh Arora, who were also arrested in connection with this case, have since turned government witnesses.
