The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition seeking the postponement of the NEET PG exam. Chief Justice of India (CJI) stated that rescheduling the exam is not possible at this stage.
During the hearing, senior advocate Sanjay Hegde, representing the petitioner, argued that the number of exam centers had been reduced from 1,200 to 500. He also suggested that the ongoing NEET UG case could impact the NEET PG exams. The CJI expressed frustration, noting that requests for exam postponements have become too frequent. “We are not academicians,” the CJI remarked, indicating the court’s unwillingness to interfere with the exam schedule.
Petitioner Vishal Soren filed the plea, claiming that NEET PG candidates are struggling to reach their assigned exam centers. According to the petition, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has assigned centers in distant cities, causing significant travel difficulties for many candidates. Additionally, students were informed only of the city, not the specific location, which added to their concerns.
The NEET PG exam, originally scheduled for June 23, 2024, was postponed to August 11. Despite the change, students have continued to demand further postponement, citing inconveniently located exam centers. Protests have erupted as students argue that they face significant challenges, including long travel distances and financial burdens.
The NEET PG exam will proceed as planned, with lakhs of candidates expected to participate.
