Supreme Court Issues Notice To Maharashtra And Bihar In Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Sanatan Dharma Case

The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Maharashtra and Bihar governments regarding a petition filed by DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin over his controversial remarks on Sanatan Dharma. The court has asked for their response within four weeks and exempted Stalin from appearing in the lower court. The next hearing is scheduled for November 18, with a bench led by Justice Sanjeev Khanna presiding.

Earlier, the court advised Stalin’s lawyer, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, to file under Section 406 of the CrPC instead of Article 32. Stalin has since revised his petition, seeking to transfer cases filed against him in Maharashtra, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Jammu and Kashmir.

During the previous hearing, the court questioned Stalin’s misuse of constitutional rights, including Article 19(1)(A) and Article 25, warning him of the potential consequences of his statements. Singhvi, on behalf of Stalin, acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and stated that Stalin is facing multiple FIRs across six states.

In September last year, Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, sparked a political firestorm by comparing Sanatan Dharma to diseases like malaria and dengue. The remark led to several criminal complaints and a petition in the Supreme Court seeking action against him.
