The Supreme Court has taken a significant step towards addressing the controversy surrounding the alleged NEET (UG) paper leak, as it issued a notice on Friday in response to a plea filed by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The plea seeks the transfer of a petition pending before the Delhi High Court to the apex court.
A vacation bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Vikram Nath and also comprising Justice Sandeep Mehta, agreed to examine NTA’s transfer plea.
The bench sought a response from the petitioner who originally filed the writ petition before the Delhi HC alleging a paper leak, with the matter scheduled for further hearing on 8 July.
The apex court, on Thursday, allowed NTA to withdraw other transfer petitions filed earlier, which sought the transfer of similar writ petitions pending before various high courts.
This decision came after NTA submitted that these petitions primarily dealt with the award of compensatory marks.
According to the Supreme Court, petitioner NTA’s counsel stated that they should withdraw the petitions concerning the award of compensatory marks pending before the High Court.
They requested to present the court’s order issued on June 13 directly to the High Court for consideration.
In a crucial order issued on June 13, the Supreme Court had already resolved the issue regarding the grant of grace marks in the NEET (UG) exam.
The court’s decision led to the withdrawal and cancellation of compensatory marks awarded to 1,563 candidates due to loss of time during the exam.
These candidates were given a choice to either reappear for the exam on 23 June or proceed with their counselling based on their actual exam marks without any adjustments.
NTA Aims To Consolidate NEET (UG) Petitions For Unified High Court Hearing
Earlier this week, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Delhi High Court about NTA’s intention to consolidate all related petitions under one roof for a unified hearing.
This was part of NTA’s strategy to streamline the litigation process surrounding the NEET (UG) paper leak allegations.
The Supreme Court’s intervention underscores its commitment to addressing significant issues affecting educational assessments and ensuring justice for all stakeholders involved in the NEET (UG) examination process.
