Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated 17-year-old archer Kumkum Mohod after she won the gold medal in the women’s recurve individual event at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
In his post on X, Shah hailed Mohod’s performance under pressure, saying she had stunned the world with her display and brought a moment of glory to the nation. He described her victory as part of India’s continued golden run in archery at the Games and extended his best wishes to the young archer.

Mohod secured the title after a thrilling 6-5 shoot-off victory in the final. She held her nerve in the deciding round and delivered a perfect 10 to clinch the gold.
The 17-year-old became the first Indian woman to win an individual recurve title at the Asian Games. Her campaign included victories over leading international archers such as world champion Kang Chae-young and Oh Yejin.
Kumkum Mohod’s triumph strengthened India’s impressive medal run in archery at Aichi-Nagoya.
The Indian women’s team had already won gold, while the mixed team secured silver.
Mohod’s individual gold carries further significance as it secured an Olympic quota place for India for the 2028 Los Angeles Games. Her landmark victory against established international competitors underlines the growing strength of India’s next generation of women archers.
