‘Gold In Golf’: Amit Shah Hails Pranavi Sharath Urs After Asian Games Triumph

Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated golfer Pranavi Sharath Urs for winning the gold medal in the women’s individual stroke play event at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

In his post on X, Shah praised Urs for her dedication and perseverance, saying her performance showcased her golfing skills and would inspire young sporting talent across the country. He said her victory had thrilled the nation and wished her continued success.

Urs finished the event with a score of 15-under 265, holding off her challengers by one stroke despite a final-round triple bogey. Her victory made her the first Indian woman to win an individual golf gold medal at the Asian Games.

The achievement ended India’s 24-year wait for an Asian Games golf gold.

Shiv Kapur had last won the men’s individual title for India at the 2002 Games.

India further added to its golf success with a silver medal in the women’s team event, with Urs joined by Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar in the Indian contingent.

Urs’ gold marked a landmark moment for Indian women’s golf and created a new milestone for the country at the Asian Games.
