Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday described the deportation of alleged narco-trafficker Navpreet Singh from Türkiye as a ‘historic milestone’ for the PM Modi government.
In a post on X, Shah alleged that Singh had obtained Turkish citizenship using the fake identity of Navab Virk and continued smuggling heroin and methamphetamine from Afghanistan to India. He said Indian agencies tracked him, established his identity and secured his deportation to India.
“Today he has been brought back to India and put behind bars” in connection with cases involving drug trafficking and other crimes, Shah said, while congratulating the agencies involved in the operation.
The Home Minister further said the Modi government remained committed to destroying every narco-cartel before December 2029.
Modi govt has achieved a historic milestone by securing the deportation of hardened narco-trafficking kingpin Navpreet Singh from Türkiye.
Obtaining Turkish citizenship under the fake identity of Navab Virk, he had continued to smuggle heroin and methamphetamine to India from Afghanistan. Our agencies tracked him down, ripping apart veil after veil to unmask his true identity, and secured his deportation. Today he has been brought back to India and put behind bars in connection with cases involving drug trafficking and other crimes he is accused of. Congratulations to all the agencies for this success.
Modi govt is committed to destroying every narco-cartel before Dec 2029.

The deportation follows other operations to bring alleged drug traffickers back to India.
In April, authorities brought Mohammad Salim Dola from Türkiye, while Delhi Police and the CBI returned fugitive Prabhdeep Singh from Azerbaijan in May in connection with a case involving 358 kg of heroin.
Investigators alleged that Prabhdeep managed operations in India for Navpreet Singh.
India and Türkiye signed an extradition treaty in 2001, which came into force in June 2002, providing a legal framework for the transfer of fugitives wanted in serious criminal cases.
The latest development highlights India’s efforts to trace and bring back fugitives accused of involvement in narcotics trafficking and organised crime through cooperation with foreign authorities.
