Delhi Police discovered that the alleged acid attack in Ashok Vihar last week was fabricated by the complainant woman and her family.
Investigators cleared three men — painter Jitender and his associates, Ishan and Arman — after finding no evidence of their involvement in the case.
Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Singh Yadav said on Tuesday that it was ‘a matter of satisfaction’ that the police prevented an injustice against the three innocent men.
He stated that the woman and her family fabricated the alleged attack to settle scores with the accused.
CCTV and Technical Evidence Clear the Accused
Yadav said that CCTV footage, technical analysis, and physical evidence proved the accused were not near Laxmi Bai College on 26 October, when the alleged incident occurred.
“The evidence clearly shows that the men were elsewhere at the time of the supposed attack,” he added.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the false accusation stemmed from a long-standing property dispute between the two families.
Police discovered that the complainant’s father, Akil Khan (45), faced allegations of sexual harassment from painter Jitender’s wife just days before the fabricated attack.
Investigators concluded that the 20-year-old woman, along with her father, brother, and uncle, conspired to falsely implicate the three men.
The two families have fought several litigations and criminal cases in the past.
“The family carried toilet cleaner from home to simulate acid injuries and later reported to the hospital claiming burns,” an investigator disclosed.
Police are now examining these claims and the roles of each family member involved in staging the incident.
Legal Action and Next Steps
Yadav said the police are consulting legal experts on how to proceed with charges against the woman’s family for filing a false case.
He said that the police acted swiftly upon receiving the complaint, as required in crimes against women, but subsequent investigation exposed the entire story as fabricated.
Police initially registered FIR No. 605/2025 under Sections 124(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), naming the three men as suspects.
However, subsequent evidence confirmed that they were not at the scene when the alleged incident occurred.
“The case serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough investigation,” Yadav emphasised. “It is satisfying that we could prevent an injustice and uncover the truth behind this staged ‘acid attack’.”
Police officials said they would soon release a detailed report outlining the findings and the roles of each family member in fabricating the incident.
Authorities will initiate legal proceedings against those who filed the false complaint and tried to frame innocent citizens.
The revelation underscores Delhi Police’s commitment to upholding justice and ensuring that false cases do not tarnish the credibility of genuine victims of crimes against women.
