Countries across the globe organised Yoga sessions on Friday to mark the one-day countdown to the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY). These events showcased growing international support for Yoga as a means of promoting health, unity, and inner peace.
In Nepal, the Embassy of India, in partnership with the Lumbini Development Trust, conducted a large Yoga demonstration at Lumbini, the sacred birthplace of Lord Buddha.
Ambassador Naveen Srivastava stated that Yoga has grown into a global movement, especially after the United Nations declared June 21 as International Day of Yoga in 2014. He said Lumbini’s peaceful environment made it a perfect venue for celebrating Yoga.
Meanwhile, in Thailand, students from St Andrews International School participated in a Yoga session. The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre under the Embassy of India, Bangkok, conducted the event.
The Embassy posted that the session reflected the theme ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’.
In Austria, the Indian Embassy in Vienna, along with Stadt Wien, held an IDY celebration. ORF, Austria’s national broadcaster, featured the event on its morning show Guten Morgen Österreich.
Likewise, in Saudi Arabia, students from International Indian Schools in Taif and Jubail took part in Yoga sessions.
The Indian Embassy in Riyadh stated that the students embodied the spirit of harmony and wellness.
At the Mobile World Congress in Shanghai, the Indian Consulate organised a Yoga workshop and symposium. It drew strong participation and highlighted Yoga’s universal appeal.
Elsewhere, in Japan, Yoga enthusiasts gathered at the Osaka Expo 2025 to celebrate the countdown.
Ambassador Sibi George and Vice Governor Shigeki Watanabe led the event and joined thousands in a collective Yoga session.
In Kenya, the High Commission of India hosted a special Yoga event at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi. The session, part of the Annual Staff Wellness Day, saw participation from over 300 Foreign Affairs officials and focused on holistic health.
Earlier, in his ‘Mann ki Baat’ address on March 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed the importance of fitness and praised the global impact of International Yoga Day. He announced this year’s theme as ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’.
The theme reflects Yoga’s role in ensuring physical, mental, and environmental wellness. It also supports the broader vision of sustainability and unity.
Since 2014, when the UN recognised June 21 as the International Day of Yoga following India’s proposal, Yoga has seen remarkable global acceptance.
