India is all set to celebrate the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on Friday with unprecedented grandeur.

PM Narendra Modi will lead the national event from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, reflecting the country’s deep commitment to global wellness.

This year’s theme, ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’, echoes India’s vision of integrated well-being.

It emphasises the interconnectedness of human and planetary health, aligning with the Indian ethos of ‘Sarve Santu Niramaya’ (May all be free from disease).

Mass participation in Yoga Day across India

PM Modi will perform the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) alongside over 3 lakh participants at Visakhapatnam.

Simultaneously, yoga demonstrations will take place at over 10 lakh locations across India under the ‘Yoga Sangam’ initiative, the Ministry of AYUSH confirmed.

The main event will run from 6:30 AM to 7:45 AM, featuring participation from Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Over 2 crore people are expected to participate in yoga sessions at 1 lakh locations across Andhra Pradesh.

The state government is coordinating a Guinness World Record attempt and plans to issue over 50 lakh yoga certificates to registered participants, marking a historic decadal celebration of IDY.

In a remarkable prelude to the main event, 25,000 tribal children at Andhra University performed 108 Surya Namaskars in 108 minutes. This initiative underscored the grassroots penetration of yoga and highlighted tribal community engagement.

PM Modi appeals to Gram Panchayats for mass participation

PM Modi, in a letter to Gram Pradhans, urged every village to embrace yoga. He wrote, “Yoga has positively transformed lives not only in India but across the world.”

His message has inspired widespread yoga activities across Panchayats, Anganwadis, and Community Health Centres.

Against an initial target of 1 lakh registrations, the Ministry of AYUSH’s Yoga Portal registered over 11 lakh organisations and groups. Rajasthan led the tally with more than 2.25 lakh registrations, followed by three other states crossing the 1 lakh mark.

10 signature events launched for decadal IDY

To commemorate ten years of IDY, the Ministry of AYUSH launched 10 Signature Events over a 100-day period, targeting diverse communities and geographies:

  • Yoga Sangam – Mass yoga demonstrations
  • Yoga Bandhan – International exchanges
  • Harit Yoga – Environmental actions
  • Yoga Park – Public parks as yoga spaces

Whole-of-Government and global coordination

A Whole-of-Government approach is steering the IDY 2025 celebrations, involving ministries, departments, state bodies, and Indian Missions abroad. Yoga camps, competitions, and awareness drives have been ongoing for weeks.

Globally, Indian embassies and cultural centres are organising demonstrations and campaigns, strengthening India’s role in global wellness diplomacy.

With strong participation, innovative programming, and global resonance, IDY 2025 stands as a landmark celebration. India’s message is clear—Yoga is not just a gift to the world, but a roadmap for a healthier, more harmonious, and sustainable future.
