Srinagar’s Sex Racket Busted; 5 People, Including a Couple, Arrested

The police said five persons, including a couple, were arrested after a sex racket was discovered in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.

The Srinagar police have uncovered two prostitution rings in the past week, including this one.

Srinagar police tweeted, “Investigation in Chanpura case led to busting of another prostitution racket in Nowgam area. 1) Shabir Mir of charlipora nowgam, 2) his wife Shazia Mir & 3) Adil Gulzar Hazar of Soura arrested on spot for operating this racket. 2 customers & a sex worker also detained(all locals)”, through its official Twitter handle.

A racket was caught last week in Srinagar’s Bagh Mehtab neighborhood. Under the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act, four female sex workers were among the eight people that were detained. The strict Public Safety Act was used to book the primary defendant in the case (PSA).

The authorities said that a rented residence was the location of the prostitution ring. As a result, officers sealed the property and began the procedure of official attachment to the dwelling. The home’s owner was also taken into custody.

Srinagar police Tweeted, “A prostitution racket in a rented accommodation at Bagh-e-Mehtab busted. 2 persons running this arrested: 1) Irshad Ahmad Bhat of Pampore 2) Mohd Shafi Hajam of Karimabad Pulwama. 4 female sex workers (all locals of Srinagar) & 2 customers detained. FIR registered at chanpura PS”, through its official Twitter handle.

The district magistrate of Srinagar issued an order mandating tenant verification in the city following the arrests and based on the police report. Landlords are now required to give comprehensive information on their renters to the appropriate police stations.
