Terrorist Killed By SecurityForces In Kashmir

Security forces prevented an attempt to cross the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, early on Monday, a defence official said. In the attack, one terrorist from Hizbul Mujahideen was killed.

Muneer Hussain, a resident of Bagyladra Poonch, has been identified as the terrorist.

According to the Army, Hussain, a self-styled division commander for Hizbul Mujahideen, crossed the Line of Control (LOC) into Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) in 1993 for training in weapons, returned in 1996, and visited PoK once more in 1998.

In addition, the defence official noted that Hussain has organised several attacks against security personnel and was associated with Maulana Dawood Kashmir, who is in turn close with Syed Salauddin, the founder of Hizbul Mujahideen.

“According to trustworthy intelligence reports, he attended a high-level conference of the Hizbul Mujahideen Group that was held in Islamabad. The resurrection of terrorism in the Rajouri and Poonch areas was on the meeting’s agenda, according to defence spokesman Lt Col Suneel Bartwal.
He said: “It is clear that Pakistan is trying to send old terror veterans to the University of Kashmir (UT) to inspire and recruit youth, making desperate attempts to revive terrorism.”

An infiltration attempt was thwarted today in the Poonch sector, according to the Army, and two infiltrators were shot during a joint counter-infiltration operation by the Army and Jammu & Kashmir.

Although Hussain’s body was found, it is unknown what happened to the other infiltrator who was shot.
