Noida: The Samajwadi Party’s Mahendra Singh Nagar filed his candidacy as the INDIA bloc’s candidate for Lok Sabha from the Gautam Buddh Nagar constituency in Western Uttar Pradesh on Monday, according to authorities. As per the officials, Nagar filed his candidacy papers with District Election Officer Manish Kumar Verma at the collectorate office in Surajpur, Greater Noida.
Nagar, a practising doctor fielded by the Samajwadi Party to face the BJP’s Mahesh Sharma, has previously won Lok Sabha elections from Gautam Buddh Nagar in 2014 and 2019. As the SP’s candidate, Nagar represents the INDIA bloc of opposition parties in a constituency where the Congress has not filed a candidate, while the Bahujan Samaj Party, which is going solo this time, has fielded Rajendra Singh Solanki. Nagar served in Congress until 2022.

“Today, before filing the nomination papers, I met with supporters to solicit their assistance in contesting the election. I also asked them to assist the INDIA bloc and the Samajwadi Party win big in this election in order to defend democratic ideals and the rights of ‘pichde, Dalit, alpsankhyak’ (PDA),” Nagar said on social media. Gautam Buddh Nagar, which includes the twin towns of Noida and Greater Noida, will vote on April 26 in the second leg of the general elections, with over 26 lakh registered voters.
