Skeletal Remains Unearthed in Gumla House Spark Sensation, Police Launch Probe

Report: Pramod Das, Gumla

Gumla Police made a significant discovery by unearthing the skeleton of a young person who had been missing for two and a half years from an unfinished house in Chater village, within the Sadar police station area. The incident has stunned the family members, causing a sensation in the locality. The police conducted a thorough excavation of the house, leading to the recovery of the skeleton, initiating an immediate investigation into the matter.

The sequence of events began with a report submitted by Chater resident Niranjan Kujur to the police on December 16, shedding light on an incident that occurred two and a half years ago. In the report, Kujur alleged the involvement of Param Lahiri and Ganesh Mahato in the murder of Raja Rajak, a resident of Bazar Tand, whose body was supposedly buried in an incomplete house. Kujur also shared this distressing information with the deceased’s mother, Geeta Devi, and other family members.

Initially, when the deceased went missing, his family presumed he had ventured out for work. However, following the suggestion from Kujur, the family submitted a petition to the Superintendent of Police (SP) on December 22, urging excavation at the suspected site. When the digging commenced under the SP’s orders and the presence of a magistrate, the police team initially returned after conducting a cursory search.

This initial dismissal of the claim stemmed from Kujur’s intoxicated state at the time, leading the police to question the validity of the information provided. Subsequently, the police revisited the site upon the insistence of the deceased’s mother, Geeta Devi. This time, during the excavation, numerous bone fragments were discovered along with the deceased’s belt, vest, rubber materials, and a gutkha pouch. The family members of the deceased assert that the recovered remains belong to Raja Rajak, alleging that the accused individuals murdered him and concealed the evidence by burying his body.

The authorities have indicated that the next course of action involves conducting a DNA test to confirm the identity of the recovered remains. Pending the results of the DNA test, the police have vowed to proceed with further necessary measures in the investigation.
