A serious accident occurred at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel project in Nagarkurnool district, Telangana, when a section of the tunnel’s roof collapsed, trapping six workers inside.
The collapse, which occurred approximately 14 kilometers from the tunnel’s entry point, caused a 3-meter section of the roof to fall. Rescue teams have been working tirelessly to save the trapped workers since the incident.
Upon learning of the accident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promptly spoke with Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to discuss the ongoing rescue efforts. PM Modi assured the Chief Minister of the central government’s full support, offering all necessary assistance to ensure the rapid execution of the rescue operations.
“The central government will provide every possible support to expedite the rescue mission,” the Prime Minister stated.
Officials report that the collapse involved a three-meter section of the tunnel’s roof. The SLBC tunnel project, which had been temporarily halted, had resumed work only four days ago.

At the time of the collapse, 50 workers were in the tunnel. While 43 workers managed to escape safely, six workers remain trapped inside, their lives in danger.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao expressed deep concern over the incident and immediately dispatched district officials, along with personnel from the fire brigade and irrigation department, to the site to accelerate the relief efforts.
State Road and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy explained that the collapse occurred in the 14-kilometer inlet section of the tunnel, where seepage led to the failure of a concrete section.
Rescue operations are actively ongoing, with officials from both the state government and the central government coordinating their efforts.
The Telangana government has assured the public that it will take every measure to save the trapped workers. With the support of Prime Minister Modi and local authorities, rescue teams are hopeful that the workers will be safely evacuated soon.
As rescue efforts continue, both the Telangana government and Prime Minister Modi remain committed to leaving no stone unturned in the mission to rescue the trapped workers.
