As unseasonal rain continues to batter Marathwada for the seventh straight day, vast tracts of farmland lie submerged, and farmer families face unprecedented losses.
In a major relief gesture, Mumbai’s iconic Shri Siddhivinayak Temple Trust has announced a donation of ₹10 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to help flood-hit communities.
According to initial estimates from the Agriculture Department, nearly 70 lakh acres of farmland across Marathwada have been inundated. The relentless downpour has destroyed standing crops and eroded fertile topsoil. Districts such as Dharashiv, Beed, Jalna, Latur, Nanded, Parbhani, Solapur and Jalgaon are among the worst affected, with once-thriving fields now resembling barren stretches.

Impact on Farmer Families
Officials estimate that approximately 36 lakh farmer households have borne the brunt of the calamity.
For many, it is not just a loss of a season’s income but also of land fertility and future livelihood. Farmers’ representatives have voiced growing concern, stressing that the devastation threatens their long-term sustenance and food security.
Amid mounting losses, farmers have intensified calls for compensation and rehabilitation.
However, the state government, grappling with its own financial constraints and stalled development schemes, faces difficulty in immediately disbursing large-scale relief. This has led to frustration on the ground as the wait for assistance stretches on.
Against this backdrop, the contribution by Siddhivinayak Temple Trust represents a significant lifeline.
Other major temples in the state are also opening their coffers to support affected families. The donation bolsters emergency relief measures and reinforces public confidence that collective action helps communities weather such disasters.
