Siddaramaiah’s Plea Amidst Speculation Over Leadership Change, “With Folded Hands”

Amidst swirling rumors of potential leadership changes within the Karnataka Congress, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah urged constituents in his Varuna Assembly segment to deliver a substantial victory for the Congress candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Siddaramaiah emphasized the need for a lead of at least 60,000 votes to secure his continued tenure as Chief Minister.

In a similar vein, Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress President DK Shivakumar, who harbors chief ministerial ambitions, rallied support in Mandya, assuring voters that their steadfast support for the party during the last Assembly election would not be in vain.

These statements hold significance against the backdrop of ongoing speculation regarding leadership reshuffles within the state Congress following the Lok Sabha elections or possibly midway through the current Assembly’s term.

Siddaramaiah recounted the narrow margin of defeat for the Congress candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and urged constituents to replicate the overwhelming support they had shown him in the Assembly elections, ensuring a decisive victory this time around.

Addressing supporters, Siddaramaiah stressed his close ties to Varuna and appealed for an emphatic victory margin, indicating that such a result would secure his position as Chief Minister without challenge.

Meanwhile, Shivakumar rallied the Vokkaliga community in Mandya, reaffirming his commitment to their aspirations and highlighting the Congress’s representation of eight Vokkaliga candidates in the Lok Sabha polls.

Expressing his chief ministerial aspirations, Shivakumar reminded constituents of the historical precedence of Vokkaliga leadership within the Congress, underscoring his potential candidacy for the role.

The leadership dynamics between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar have been a subject of keen interest since the last Assembly elections, with reports suggesting a possible compromise arrangement regarding the Chief Minister’s position, though such claims remain unconfirmed by the party.

Overall, these developments underscore the complex interplay of power dynamics within the Karnataka Congress, as leaders vie for position and influence in the run-up to crucial electoral contests.
