Gor highlighted Shukla’s training at NASA and his role as pilot of Axiom Space’s Ax-4 mission to the International Space Station. He said the astronaut’s experience demonstrated the potential of bilateral cooperation in the space sector.
During his visit to Bengaluru, Gor held talks with Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
The ambassador said cooperation between the two countries in Karnataka was expanding in areas including space technology, artificial intelligence and trade. Gor had recently welcomed another development in bilateral ties involving the defence industry. He described the planned co-production of the Javelin All Up Round (AUR) in India as an important advancement in the US-India defence relationship.
The initiative involves Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Tata Advanced Systems Limited.
Gor said the arrangement would create opportunities for US businesses, reinforce America’s defence-industrial base and expand India’s manufacturing strength.
Tata Advanced Systems Limited and the Javelin Joint Venture (JJV), which brings together Raytheon, an RTX business, and Lockheed Martin, have signed an MoU covering Javelin AUR co-production in India.
Lockheed Martin said the JJV assessed several companies on their expertise and capabilities before choosing Tata Advanced Systems as its lead partner for future domestic production.
The developments underline the widening scope of US-India cooperation, spanning human spaceflight, advanced technology, manufacturing and defence.
