Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid homage to freedom fighter Parbati Giri on the occasion of her birth centenary, praising her commendable role in India’s struggle against colonial rule. He highlighted her lifelong dedication to social service and community welfare.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Paying homage to Parbati Giri Ji on her birth centenary. She played a commendable role in the movement to end colonial rule. Her passion for community service and work in sectors like healthcare, women empowerment and culture is noteworthy. Here is what I had said in last month’s #MannKiBaat.”

Earlier, on 28 December, PM Modi had also referred to Parbati Giri during his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, stating: “Next month, we will mark the birth centenary of Parbati Giri Ji, who contributed to our freedom movement and also focussed on uplifting the poor as well as the marginalised. Paid homage to her during today’s #MannKiBaat.”

The Prime Minister recalled that Parbati Giri joined the Quit India Movement at the young age of 16.

Following independence, she devoted her life to social service, establishing orphanages and working tirelessly to uplift underprivileged and tribal communities.

PM Modi emphasised that many freedom fighters like her did not receive the recognition they deserved, yet their sacrifices shaped the nation.

Concluding his tribute, PM Modi stated that Parbati Giri Ji’s inspiring life and dedication would continue to guide future generations, and he paid heartfelt respect to her enduring legacy.
