Gyanvapi Mosque

Stay Orders On ASI Survey

LIVE: On Monday, a team from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which arrived in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, late last night, started surveying the Gyanvapi Mosque complex. The mosque’s wazukhana will be excluded from a scientific study of the mosque’s grounds. Four women plaintiffs and their lawyers are among the 32 members of the Hindu side and the ASI survey team who are currently inside the mosque, according to local reporters.

The Varanasi district court ordered a thorough inspection of the mosque on Friday to determine whether it had been constructed on an earlier Hindu temple. Sohan Lal Arya, petitioner in the Gyanvapi mosque case said, “This is a very glorious moment for us for the Hindu community & crores of Hindus…survey is the only possible solution to this Gyanvapi issue.” Many revelations are expected to come up in the later part of the day.

Senior Attorney Shyam Diwan presented the Varanasi Court’s ruling directing the ASI survey of the property before the court on behalf of the Hindu side.

Advocate Huzefa Ahmadi for the Muslim side argued against the Hindu side’s arguments, while Diwan asserted that all of the surveying methods, including GPR, are non-evasive.

Tushar Mehta, the Solicitor General, stated that, in his opinion, satellite techniques are also being utilised.

At the SC hearing, senior counsel Huzefa Ahmadi said that the problem was that the order for the ASI survey of the entire site had only been given on Friday. The survey was to be postponed at the request of the Muslim side, and failing to do so “is a contempt of your orders,” he insisted.

You are to petition the High Court, according to the SC.
